A cyclone gasifying combustion burner and its operation is described. An exemplary burner has an inner cylindrical wall with a contour chamber feeding combustion air into the inner cylindrical wall, with an open end and a solid fuel support end where a combustible material forms a fuel bed. The inner cylindrical wall has a series of inclined air jet holes of substantially predetermined diameter and disposed at substantially predetermined locations therein to create a unidirectional cyclone within a combustion zone defined within the inner cylindrical wall. The air jet holes are disposed at a tangential and vertical angle whereby the combustion air is drawn into the inner cylindrical wall and creates a cyclone flow to mix with the combustion gases released from the flaming pyrolysis fuel bed and causes the combustion gases to flow in a cyclone path within a reaction zone to increase the residency, mixing and turbulence time of the combustion gases and simultaneously precipitate suspended particles against an inner surface of the inner cylindrical wall whereby the particles are caused to gravitate to the fuel bed where they are removed in a controlled manner during the operation of the burner.

System and method of identifying fusion for dual-chamber automatic capture stimulation device

A multi-chamber stimulation device and associated method reliably and automatically distinguish fusion from loss of capture during ventricular stimulation. The stimulation device provides immediate and accurate fusion detection when a loss of capture is suspected in the ventricles without delivering back-up stimulation pulses. To achieve this objective, the far-field signal present in the atrial channel is examined for evidence of a far-field R-wave whenever the ventricular channel detects a loss of capture. If a far-field R-wave is present, fusion is confirmed, and a far-field R-wave is absent, loss of capture is confirmed. Additionally, the stimulation device inhibits unnecessary back-up stimulation and threshold tests when fusion occurs, and provides appropriate adjustment of stimulation parameters based on confirmed fusion detection such that fusion re-occurrence is minimized.

Barrier Film for Use in Multilayer Thermoformable Materials and Shaped Articles and Containers Made Therefrom

The disclosure relates to a laminated, thermoformable barrier film useful as a peelable surface liner, such as in containers and other shaped articles. The laminated film includes at least two layers, including a distal layer and a medial layer. The medial layer includes an odor-resistant polymer barrier layer that inhibits passage of gases and odors therethrough. The distal layer includes a polymer layer that inhibits permeation of a liquid through to distal layer from a contact face thereof to the barrier layer. Optionally, the distal layer can include a scratch resistant layer. The laminated film can also include a proximal layer that includes a layer of a pliable polymer. The laminated film can be included as a surface liner, or stack of surface liners, on a thermoformed article or on a sheet that can be thermoformed. The laminated sheets have multiple uses, including as liners for food service containers. In such containers, the barrier layer of the laminated sheets can inhibit penetration of the liner by odors or tastes from food items contained therein and can also prevent liquid saturation of the barrier layer of the sheets, which could otherwise limit the odor-resistant properties of the sheets.

This method provides a method for reducing HIV-1 viral load in an HIV-1-infected human subject which comprises administering to the subject at a predefined interval effective HIV-1 viral load-reducing doses of (a) a humanized antibody designated PRO 140, or of (b) an anti-CCR5 receptor monoclonal antibody. This invention also provides a method for inhibiting in a human subject the onset or progression of an HIV-1-associated disorder, the inhibition of which is effected by inhibiting fusion of HIV-1 to CCR5+CD4+ target cells in the subject. This invention also provides a method for treating a subject infected with HIV-1 comprising administering to the subject (a) a monoclonal antibody which (i) binds to a CCR5 receptor on the surface of the subject's CD4+ cells and (ii) inhibits fusion of HIV-1 to the subject's CCR5+CD4+ cells, and (b) a non-antibody CCR5 receptor antagonist, in amounts effective to treat the subject.

A group of compounds that inhibit HIV replication by blocking HIV entry was identified. One representative compound, designated NB-206, and its analogs inhibited HIV replication (p24 production) with IC50 values at nanomolar levels. Process for producing wear-resistant surface layers

Process for the effective production of very wear-resistant layers in the thickness range of 0.2 to approx. 3 mm by way of inductively supported surface layer modification. It can be used particularly advantageously for the protection of components of hardenable steels and cast iron with abrasive, corrosive, high-temperature corrosive or mineral sliding wear loading. With the process according to the invention a local two-stage inductive short-time preheating takes place directly before the surface layer coating. Due to the invention it is possible to coat even hardenable steels or other materials difficult to coat without cracking. Furthermore, even harder coating materials susceptible to cracking which provide better wear-resistances can be used. In addition, process speeds and surface coating performances can be achieved that are higher by a factor of 10 compared with conventional laser build-up welding. The aerogel material prepared by the preparation method hasa good high-temperature-resisting property; the heat-resisting temperature is 1000 DEG C or more and the high-temperature-resisting aerogel material even can bear the high temperature of 1300 DEG C or more.
