Topical exposure of nitric oxide gas to wounds such as chronic non-healing wounds may be beneficial in promoting healing of the wound and in preparing the wound bed for further treatment and recovery. Nitric oxide gas may be used, for example, to reduce the microbial infection and burden on these wounds, manage exudate secretion by reducing inflammation, upregulate expression of endogenous collagenase to locally debride the wound, and regulate the formation of collagen. High concentration of nitric oxide ranging from about 160 to 400 ppm may be used without inducing toxicity in the healthy cells around a wound site. Additionally, exposure to the high concentration for a first treatment period reduces the microbial burden and inflammation at the wound site and increase collagenase expression to debride necrotic tissue at the wound site. After a first treatment period with high concentration of nitric oxide, a second treatment period at a lower concentration of nitric oxide preferably ranging from about 5-20 ppm may to provided to restore the balance of nitric oxide and induce collagen expression to aid in the closure of the wound.

Fluidic connector for irrigation and aspiration of wounds

Disclosed herein are several embodiments of a negative pressure apparatus and methods of using the same in the treatment of wounds. Some embodiments are directed towards improved fluidic connectors configured to transmit irrigation fluid and to apply aspiration to a wound, for example using softer, kink-free conformable layers. Some embodiments may comprise a first channel for delivering irrigation fluid to the wound and a second channel for transmitting negative pressure and removing fluid comprising irrigation fluid and wound exudate from the wound, wherein the channels comprise a flexible spacer material. Some embodiments are directed toward an irrigation manifold attachable to or incorporated as part of a distal end of an irrigation and aspiration fluidic connector.

Adhesive bandage

The invention provides an adhesive bandage using biological cellulose hydrogel, which is at least partially dehydrated, as an absorbent pad. The above biological cellulose hydrogel, which is at least partially dehydrated, has water content lower than 45%; and preferably a biological cellulose hydrogel dried to a constant weight is used as an absorbent pad. After rehydration, the absorbent pad of the adhesive bandage provided by the invention expands substantially to provide larger and more stable pressure thereby realizing better hemostatic effect. Simultaneously, the biological cellulose hydrogel, which is at least partially dehydrated, has better water-absorbing quality, and can continuously absorb diffusate of a wound for lasting usage and maintain drying of the wound for a long time. The added traditional Chinese medicine components endow the adhesive bandage with effects of sterilization, disinfection and infection prevention; and the adhesive bandage has no toxic or side effect, and has promising application prospects.
