The invention discloses a 
total mixed ration additive for dairy cows. The 
total mixed ration additive is prepared from the following components in percentage by weight: 50-60% of molasses, 10-30% of 
xylose, 2-4% of compound 
probiotic metabolites, 8-12% of 
propanoic acid and 4-10% of 
propionate. The 
total mixed ration additive is prepared by the following method: 1) weighing the molasses, the 
propionate, the 
propanoic acid, the 
xylose and the compound 
probiotic metabolites, mixing partial molasses with the 
propionate according to a weight ratio of 1:1, and adding the 
propanoic acid, the xyloseand the compound 
probiotic metabolites to obtain a mixture A; and 2) adding the mixture A obtained in the step 1) to the residual molasses while stirring, and performing thorough mixing to obtain thetotal mixed ration additive. Compared with common liquid additives at the existing market, the total mixed ration additive used in TMR of dairy cows can achieve an anti-
mildew effect, improve the binding property of the TMR, improve the 
palatability of the TMR, additionally improve the energy value of the TMR, reduce the effect of 
summer heat stress on the production performance of the dairy cowsand reduce 
food preference of the dairy cows; and in addition, the total mixed ration additive is more convenient to use in the 
pasture, reduces labor cost and ensures uniformity of the amount of theadditive in each batch of ration.
