The invention discloses a test system and method thereof for a frequency converter. The test system comprises a single-phase transformer, a motor switch, a circuit breaker, a test motor, a feedback motor, an excitation device, a test frequency converter, a power grid simulator, a magnetic heavy lad encoder, a NJ type torque sensor, a control system, a measuring system and a protection system, eachof power supply lines of the test system and load lines of the test motor and the feedback motor are all controlled by the circuit breaker to be switched on and off, after a specified voltage level power supply is selected, the test frequency converter drives the test motor, the test motor drives a rotor shaft of a feedback generator to rotate, so that the electric energy generated by the statorside of the feedback motor is converted into direct current power through a feedback frequency converter, and then the current is fed back to a direct current feedback common bus; the system has the advantages of integration, impact and errors caused by environments and labors when a test is carried out item by item are reduced, and reliability of the test is increased.
