SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) molecular marker for detecting watermelon pulp color and application

PendingCN121852598ALower annealing/extension temperaturesQuick typingMicrobiological testing/measurementDNA/RNA fragmentationGenotypingGenome
The invention provides an SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) molecular marker for detecting the color of watermelon pulp and application of the SNP molecular marker. The SNP molecular marker corresponds to a Chr06: 24308944 site on a No.6 chromosome of a watermelon Citrullus lanatus 97103 v2.5 genome, the polymorphism of the SNP molecular marker is G / A, and the SNP molecular marker is closely linked with the thick yellow / light yellow color character of watermelon pulp. When the basic group of the SNP site is G, the watermelon shows a thick yellow pulp character; and when the basic group is A, the watermelon shows a light yellow pulp character. The invention also provides a KASP primer group for detecting the SNP molecular marker, and a detection method based on the primer group, and KASP-PCR amplification and genetic typing are performed on a sample to be detected, so that the color character of watermelon pulp is judged. The invention also provides a kit containing the primer group and application of the kit in watermelon molecular marker-assisted breeding. The method has the advantages of being rapid in detection, high in accuracy, free of environmental influence, suitable for high-throughput application and the like, and the breeding efficiency of the yellow pulp watermelon variety is improved.

Herbal composition for a treatment of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and cardiovascular risk factors

The present invention relates to an herbal composition and method for a treatment and management of at least one of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and associated cardiovascular risk factors. The composition comprises standardized plant extracts derived from Rauvolfia serpentina, Hippophae rhamnoides seed, Citrullus lanatus seed, and Phyllanthus emblica fruit, in approximate weight proportions ranging from 20-40% for Rauvolfia serpentina, 20-40% for Hippophae rhamnoides, 10-30% for Citrullus lanatus, and 10-30% for Phyllanthus emblica. The invention also provides a method of preparing the composition involving harvesting, drying, grinding, extracting with selected solvents, concentrating, optionally fractionating, and formulating into oral dosage forms such as one of capsules, tablets, and powder sachets. The invention further includes methods for administering the composition to a subject in need thereof, optionally as an adjunct to conventional therapy.

Mutant gene conferring a compact growth phenotype in watermelon

The present invention relates to a mutant Cullin1 gene which when present in a watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) plant leads to a compact growth phenotype that enables efficient cultivation. The invention also relates to watermelon plants comprising the mutant Cullin1 gene. The mutant Cullin1 gene provides watermelon plants with a compact growth phenotype, i.e. comprising shorter internode length and / or a smaller leaf area when compared to watermelon plants not comprising the mutant Cullin1 gene. The invention further relates to the use of the mutant Cullin1 gene for the identification and development of a plant showing a compact growth phenotype.

Spotted watermelon plants

The present invention relates to methods of breeding with spotted watermelon, Citrullus lanatus, lines and varieties. More specifically, methods of making homozygous-spotted diploid watermelon lines (HSDL) for use in breeding and methods of making homozygous-spotted tetraploid watermelon lines (HSDL) for use in breeding are described. Further, methods of producing 33%, 66%, or 100% spotted triploid hybrid watermelon plants, as well as methods of producing 50% or 100% spotted diploid hybrid watermelon plants, are described. This invention further relates to markers able to determine the percentage of spotted allele present in spotted watermelon lines and varieties. In addition, this invention relates to new and distinctive lines and varieties of watermelon with a spotted phenotype.
