The method involves placing a fluid drop on a solid surface, and gradually increasing its volume by adding more fluid, while continuing to determine the corresponding increase in fluid height, until the drop attains maximum height beyond which additional fluid only increases the drop footprint and not height, and determining the equilibrium height and in turn the contact angle by means of an equation that correlates contact angle with depth below the fluid surface, together with the fluid surface tension and liquid density. The method may in turn be used to determine the fluid surface tension from the equilibrium height when the contact angle and density of the fluid are known.

The separator has a vane assembly made up of a number of corrugated vanes that provide serpentine paths for the gas stream therethrough. As the gas stream flows through the serpentine paths, it changes direction and liquid in the gas stream impacts the surfaces of the vanes. The upstream section of the vane assembly has roughened surfaces to decrease the surface tension of the liquid, thereby causing the liquid to coalesce. The downstream section of the vane assembly has smooth surfaces so as to increase the surface tension of the liquid. The vane assembly is followed by filters, which capture the liquid that passes through the vane assembly. The vane assembly coalesces the liquid to enable the filters to operate more effectively.

The present invention provides an apparatus for efficiently transporting or dispensing transport objects including not only particles but also liquid samples. A liquid in a first liquid transport pipe (3) is fed at a liquid feed velocity (V1), and a liquid droplet is formed toward an open end of a second liquid transport pipe (4) disposed with an air gap (11) in between. The particle is released into the liquid droplet, so that the particle is enclosed in the liquid droplet. Suction with a liquid feed velocity (V2) is applied to the inside of the second liquid transport pipe. Since the relationship between V1 and V2 is V1<V2, the liquid droplet, after reaching the open end (10) of the second liquid transport pipe, is sheared off by suction, thereby forming a liquid section in the second liquid transport pipe. Thus, the particle in the liquid section, held under surface tension on a gas-liquid phase boundary, can be transported into a particle array container with stability in conjunction with the liquid section.

The emulsion provided in the invention has a solid content of 40%-45%, viscosity (in terms of a 4-cup application amount) of 20S-26S, bonding peel strength (N / 2.5cm) of 1.4-2.5, a surface tension force of 32-37 dyne, and a film contact angle of 25-29 degrees, thus being particularly suitable for application in dry paper-plastic or plastic-plastic composite adhesives. The preparation method of the vinyl acetate-acrylate copolymer emulsion has the characteristics of mild reaction conditions and safety reaction system, thus being conducive to factory mass production.

A fluid body is provided in the form of a surface-attached droplet / bubble and a plurality of linear dimensional measurements are taken and provided as input to a processing apparatus. Processing apparatus determines from the data set the one or more parameters associated with the shape described by said linear dimensional measurements. Particular the surface tension of a fluid can be found in this way based on simple dimensional measurements.
