MEMS-based variable capacitor

A variable capacitor device using MEMS or micromachining techniques wherein thin-films of materials are deposited, patterned and etched to form movable micromechanical elements on the surface of a substrate composed of either semiconductor, glass, metal, or ceramic material. In one embodiment of the present invention to achieve higher frequency performance as well as other benefits, the substrate is comprised of Low-Temperature Co-Fired Ceramics (LTCC). The variable capacitor is an electrostatically actuated micromechanical device and if fabricated on a LTCC multi-layered substrate material has continuous electrical connections through the layers. The same LTCC substrate material can also be used to enclose the device by selectively removing a portion of the upper substrate so as to form a cavity. The two substrates are then bonded together to enclose and protect the variable capacitor. An integrated circuit can be incorporation onto the multi-level substrate structure to enable a electronic closed-loop controlled variable capacitor module. The integrated circuit is flip-chip bonded at the bottom of the substrate structure with appropriate electrical connections between the integrated circuit and the MEMS variable capacitor device. A variation of the present invention utilizes a zipper actuation method wherein the tuning ratio of the variable capacitor is increased to very high levels. Yet another variation of the present invention utilizes a differential gap between the top and bottom electrodes such that the actuation electrodes do not physically contact one another. Yet another implementation of the present invention uses an extra set of electrodes or mechanical mechanism so as to lock the value of the capacitor indefinitely. Yet another implementation uses shaped actuation electrodes so as to linearize the relationship between the applied actuation voltage and the resultant capacitance of the device.

Compositions and methods for storing aqueous chlorine dioxide solutions

The present invention is directed to both physical and chemical means for maintaining continuous high levels of chlorine dioxide in aqueous solutions for extended periods, with minimum loss through degradation in the solution and dissipation through the walls of the containing vessel within which the solution is stored. The ClO2 may be maintained even in the absence of very high levels of chlorite, from which supplemental, offsetting levels of ClO2 may be generated. The present invention relates to the discovery that certain types of plastic and glass containers have the ability to maintain relatively constant levels of ClO2 in their contained solutions over extended periods, particularly in aqueous compositions comprising chlorite/ClO2 ratios sufficient for a stabilizing complex of the two, presumably Cl204-, to suppress the ClO2 loss. Of particular value is certain high-density polyethylene terephthalate (PETE) plastic bottling and plastic containers which have been initially exposed to a fluorinating environment. Specifically, in the latter regard, it has been discovered that certain plastic containers which ordinarily are incapable of maintaining aqueous ClO2 levels can be treated with fluorine gas to transform their surfaces so as to effectively suppress ClO2 diffusion therethrough.

High-performance direct current amplification device for acquiring biological electric signals

The invention discloses a high-performance direct current amplification device for acquiring biological electric signals, which comprises an input protection / filter circuit, an input buffer circuit, an instrument amplifying circuit, an RC low-pass filter circuit, an analog-digital conversion and peripheral circuit and a CPU connected in sequence, wherein the input protection / filter circuit acquires the biological electric signals and inputs the biological electric signals into the input buffer circuit, and then the biological electric signals pass through the instrument amplifying circuit, the RC low-pass filter circuit and the analog-digital conversion and peripheral circuit in turn; and the CPU controls the analog-digital conversion and peripheral circuit to work. The high-performance direct current amplification device performs impedance conversion on the biological electric signals first, then amplifies the signals, inhibits common-mode signals, and filters high-frequency noise, and a single-end transfer differential amplifier performs secondary amplification on the biological electric signals, so the indexes such as the noise, the common-mode rejection ratio and the like of the signals after analog-digital conversion reach a very high level; besides, a base line is very stable, the signal input dynamic range is large and is difficult to saturate, and simultaneously required devices are fewer, and the reliability of the high-performance direct current amplification device is improved.

Auto-escrowable and auto-certifiable cryptosystems with fast key generation

A method is provided for an escrow cryptosystem that is overhead-free, does not require a cryptographic tamper-proof hardware implementation (i.e., can be done in software), is publicly verifiable, and cannot be used subliminally to enable a shadow public key system. A shadow public key system is an unescrowed public key system that is publicly displayed in a covert fashion. The keys generated by the method are auto-recoverable and auto-certifiable (abbrev. ARC). The ARC Cryptosystem is based on a key generation mechanism that outputs a public/private key pair, and a certificate of proof that the key was generated according to the algorithm. Each generated public/private key pair can be verified efficiently to be escrowed properly by anyone. The verification procedure does not use the private key. Hence, the general public has an efficient way of making sure that any given individual's private key is escrowed properly, and the trusted authorities will be able to access the private key if needed. Since the verification can be performed by anyone, there is no need for a special trusted entity, known in the art as a "trusted third party". Furthermore, the system is designed so that its internals can be made publicly scrutinizable (e.g., it can be distributed in source code form). This differs from many schemes which require that the escrowing device be tamper-proof hardware. The system has a novel feature that the system parameters can be generated very efficiently and at the same time provide a very high level of security. Another novel feature is a method for making the certificates of recoverability publishable. The system is applicable for law-enforcement, file systems, e-mail systems, certified e-mail systems, and any scenario in which public key cryptography can be employed and where private keys or information encrypted under public keys need to be recoverable.

Type of High-Performance DC Amplification Device for Bioelectrical Signal Collection

This invention relates to a high-performance DC amplifying device for bioelectrical signal collection, including the sequentially linked input protective / filter circuit, input buffer circuit, instrumentation amplification circuit, RC low-pass filter circuit, analog-digital conversion and peripheral circuit and CPU, as described as below: the input protective / filter circuit collects the bioelectrical signal and sends such signal to the input buffer circuit and then allows it pass through the instrumentation amplification circuit, RC low-pass filter circuit and analog-digital conversion and peripheral circuit in order. For such device, CPU controls the operation of analog-digital conversion and peripheral circuit. This invention converts the impedance of bioelectrical signal firstly and then applies the common-mode signal rejection to the amplified signal, with the high-frequency noise filtered; such signal is treated for the secondary amplification by the single-ended-to-differential operational amplifier—the noise and common-mode rejection ratio and other indicators of such signal after analog-digital conversion reach a very high level and the baseline is very stable; the dynamic range of signal input is large and it is not saturated easily. With fewer parts needed, the reliability of such device is enhanced.

Cryptographic key processing and storage

ActiveUS7023998B2Readily changed-whileCryptographic security can be heightenedKey distribution for secure communicationUnauthorised/fraudulent call preventionComputer hardwareCryptographic key types
A method and apparatus enhancing the security of an encrypted cryptographic key by storing its key re-transforming information in a decryption store that is separate from a cryptographic key store, which stores the encrypted cryptographic key, from which accessing circuitry is able to access the encrypted cryptographic key. The cryptographic key store may be a disk drive of a computer, the decryption store may be a network access card installed in that computer or a mobile terminal coupled to that computer, and the accessing circuitry may be the computer's controller. Decryption of the encrypted cryptographic key is carried out in the decryption store, as is the subsequent encryption or decryption using the decrypted cryptographic key. The accessing circuitry communicates with the decryption store exclusively via a predetermined interface, where the interface does not allow the accessing circuitry access to the cryptographic key and to at least a portion of the key re-transforming information from the decryption store. Thus, the encrypted cryptographic key can be stored relatively insecurely; while the security of the cryptographic key is maintained at a very high level because there is no native capability for the computer to randomly read information from the network access card or the mobile terminal.
