The insulating material is prepared from the following raw materials: a styrene elastomer, polyethylene and metallocene polyolefin, wherein the mass content of styrene in the styrene elastomer is 8-20%. According to the invention, the styrene elastomer with low styrene content and the polyethylene are blended as the base material, the styrene elastomer and the polyethylene can be cross-linked under irradiation, and the cross-linking degree is obviously increased compared with the prior art, so that the mechanical strength, heat resistance, aging resistance and other properties of the insulating material are improved. The metallocene polyolefin can effectively adjust the hardness of the system and improve the toughness of the finished product. The metallocene polyolefin is short in branch chain, small in quantity and not involved in cross-linking reaction, the toughness of a finished product can be improved, meanwhile, adverse effects on the cross-linking reaction are avoided, the insulating material does not need to be added with mineral oil plasticizers, and therefore the insulating material has the advantages of being high in mechanical strength, resistant to heat, oil, aging and cracking, low in hardness and the like.
