Compositions and methods for use in three dimensional model printing

Compositions for use in the manufacture of three-dimensional objects including compositions for use as a support and / or release material in the manufacture of the three-dimensional objects are provided. There is thus provided, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a composition suitable for building a three-dimensional object. The compositions may include, inter alia, a curable component, having a functional group, wherein if the functional group is a polymerizable reactive functional group, then the functional group is a (meth)acrylic functional group, a photo-initiator, a surface-active agent and a stabilizer; wherein said composition has a first viscosity of about 50–500 cps at a first temperature, wherein said first temperature is ambient temperature, and a second viscosity lower than 20 cps at a second temperature wherein said second temperature is higher than said first temperature, wherein, after curing, the composition results in a solid form. There is thus provided, in accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, a composition suitable for support in building a three-dimensional object. The compositions may include, inter alia: a non-curable component, a curable component, wherein the non-curable component is not reactive with said curable component, a surface-active agent and a stabilizer; wherein said composition has a first viscosity of about 20–500 cps at a first temperature, wherein said first temperature is ambient temperature, and a second viscosity lower than 20 cps at a second temperature wherein said second temperature is higher than said first temperature, wherein, after irradiation, the composition results in a solid, a semi-solid or liquid material. A method for the preparation of a three-dimensional object by three-dimensional printing is provided in accordance with embodiments of the present invention. Embodiments of the present invention further provide a three-dimensional object prepared according to the methods of the invention.

Light emitting apparatus and method for curing inks, coatings and adhesives

A UV curing apparatus and method is provided for enhancing the distribution and application of UV light to UV photo initiators in a UV curable ink, coating or adhesive. The UV curing apparatus and method comprises UV LED assemblies in a first row with the UV LED assemblies spaced from adjacent UV LED assemblies. At least one second row of a plurality of UV LED assemblies are provided next to the first row but with the UV LED assemblies of the second row positioned adjacent the spaces between adjacent UV LED assemblies in the first row thereby to stagger the second row of UV LED assemblies from the UV LED assemblies in the first row. Desirably, the rows of staggered UV LED assemblies are mounted on a panel. UV curable products, articles or other objects containing UV photo initiators that are in or on a web can be conveyed or otherwise moved past the rows of UV LED assemblies for effective UV curing. This arrangement facilitates more uniformly application of UV light on the UV curable ink, coating and/or adhesives in the UV curable products, articles or other objects. The apparatus can include one or more of the following: rollers for moving the web, mechanisms for causing the panel to move in an orbital or reciprocal path, and an injection tube for injecting a non-oxygen gas in the area of UV light curing.

The invention discloses an amphiphilic ternary polymer brush and a nano capsule. The amphiphilic ternary polymer brush has the following general formula, wherein A is polymer main chain, B is lipophilic polymer side chain, C is photo-crosslinked polymer side chain, D is hydrophilic polymer side chain, and the side chains B, C and D are randomly grafted onto the main chain A; and the nano capsule is prepared through dispersing the amphiphilic ternary polymer brush into an oil-water two-phase system, and then performing light crosslinking reaction or reaction initiated by light. The amphiphilic ternary polymer brush solves the difficulty that the particle size of the capsule can not be adjusted and controlled effectively by using the conventional segmented copolymers, and the size of the prepared photo-crosslinked nano capsule is easily adjusted and controlled; the nano capsule prepared by the emulsion self-assembly method is simple in operation and easy to use in large-scale preparation; the prepared hollow nano capsule is large in casting quantity; the photo-crosslinked nano capsule provided by the invention is stable, and according to the light crosslinking method, nontoxicity and safety are reliazed, and the environmental protection is realized. The invention provides a reflection holographic thin membrane and a preparation method thereof. The reflection holography membrane comprises a basement membrane, a buffer layer which is coated at one side of the basement membrane, a photopolymer coating which is coated at the other side of the buffer layer and formed by the holographic polymer paints, and a protective membrane which is covered on the surface of the photopolymer; wherein, hologram images or the interference fringes of double discoloration pictures are recorded on the photopolymer coating; the photopolymer coating comprises film-forming agents, a nano-composite pre-polymer, a monomer, photo initiators, chain transfer agents and photo sensitizers; the nano-composite pre-polymer is a product which is prepared by alkenyl unsaturated monomer with an unsaturated group at the terminal position and nano-particles. The invention has high sensitivity, high reflection efficiency, high refractivity modulation value, long storage life and little influence of the environment on the hologram images; the recorded images are treated by photo-curing and heat-enhancement and can reach reflected images and double discoloration images with the reflection efficiency of more than 99.9 precent, so mass production is available.

The invention discloses a normal-temperature multiple curing organic-inorganic hybridized aqueous polyurethane woodware coating and a preparation method thereof. The coating mainly contains organic-inorganic hybridized aqueous nano polyurethane latex, a film-forming assistant, a defoaming and foam inhibitor, a flatting agent, a base material wetting agent, a stable dispersing agent, a thickening agent and an aqueous photo initiator, wherein the organic-inorganic hybridized aqueous nano polyurethane latex is prepared by firstly obtaining a polyurethane prepolymer by pre-polymerizing, and then adding an inorganic nano material in an organic-inorganic hybridization way by an in-situ polymerization technology, and finally grafting a photo-curing end-capping agent containing active functional groups and C-C double bonds. The normal-temperature multiple curing organic-inorganic hybridized aqueous polyurethane woodware coating is obtained by adding and dispersing pigment fillings and an assistant evenly in the organic-inorganic hybridized aqueous nano polyurethane latex. The invention not only solves the pollution problem of a solvent-type VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) coating, but also solves the problem of aqueous coatings which have the defects of poor toughness and poor performances in weather resistance, aging resistance, acid resistance, alkaline resistance and solvent resistance.

The invention relates to an aqueous UV (ultraviolet) printing ink dispersed by utilizing a vermiculate micelle system and a preparation method thereof. According to the preparation method, a vermiculate micelle phase is formed in an aqueous solution by using a composite surfactant composed of a polymerizable type cationic surfactant and organic acids / organic salts, and various printing ink components (solid pigment, an aqueous ultraviolet light initiator, and various functional additives and a small amount of monomers) are encapsulated in the vermiculate micelle phase; and the aqueous UV printing ink with viscoelasticity is prepared by the steps of ultrasonic dispersion, centrifugal filtration and the like. According to the invention, an organic solvent is prevented from being used, so that the aqueous printing ink is environmentally-friendly; the aqueous printing ink has UV initiating activity, can be rapidly crosslinked and solidified on the surface of a printing stock, and embodiesgood water tolerance and abrasive resistance; and the vermiculate micelle in the system endows the printing ink with changeable fluid properties at different temperatures, and enables the printing ink to have better leveling property at high temperature and higher adhesion at low temperature, thus the aqueous printing ink is suitable for high-speed printing on various printing stocks such as plastic, metal and the like and has excellent gloss and color reproducibility.
