A method of sterilizing an article by sequentially exposing the article to hydrogen peroxide and ozone is disclosed. The article is exposed under vacuum first to an evaporated aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and subsequently to an ozone containing gas. The exposure is carried out without reducing the water vapor content of the sterilization atmosphere, the water vapor content being derived from the aqueous solvent of the hydrogen peroxide solution and from the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. The complete sterilization process is carried out while the chamber remains sealed and without removal of any component of the sterilization atmosphere. For this purpose, the chamber is initially evacuated to a first vacuum pressure sufficient to cause evaporation of the aqueous hydrogen peroxide at the temperature of the chamber atmosphere. The chamber is then sealed for the remainder of the sterilization process and during all sterilant injection cycles. Keeping the chamber sealed and maintaining the hydrogen peroxide and its decomposition products in the chamber for the subsequent ozone sterilization step results in a synergistic increase in the sterilization efficiency and allows for the use of much lower sterilant amounts and sterilization cycle times than would be expected from using hydrogen peroxide and ozone in combination.

Ultraviolet and ozone combined disinfection method for nutrient solution

The invention belongs to the field of liquid disinfection methods, and particularly relates to an ultraviolet-ozone combined disinfection method for a soil-less culture nutrient solution. The method comprises the following steps: (1) a liquid to be disinfected in a nutrient solution pool flows into a pipeline through the power provided by a water pump; (2) the nutrient solution enters a filter for filtration; (3) the filtered nutrient solution flows into a Venturi tube ejector and is mixed with ozone generated by an ozone generator to kill pathogenicbacteria by utilizing the strong oxidizing property of the ozone; (4) the nutrient solution which is sterilized by the ozone flows into an ultraviolet disinfector to further kill microorganisms which are not killed by the disinfection of the ozone; and (5) the sterilized nutrient solution flows out of a liquid outlet of the ultraviolet disinfector and enters a liquid storage tank to finish the whole disinfection process. The nutrient solution greatly improves the sterilization effect through the filtration of the filter, the disinfection of the ozone and the disinfection of ultraviolet rays, and ensures that the quantity of the microorganisms in the nutrient solution is minimized; and the complete set of device has the advantages of low cost, small energy consumption, and expense economization.

Method and apparatus for ozone sterilization

The sterilization method disclosed includes the steps ofproviding a sterilization chamber;placing the article into the sterilization chamber;equalizing the temperature of the article and thesterilization atmosphere;sealing the sterilization chamber;applying a vacuum of a preselected vacuum pressure to the sterilization chamber;supplying water vapour to the sterilization chamber under vacuum;supplying ozone-containing gas to the sterilization chamber;maintaining the sterilization chamber sealed for a preselected treatment period; andreleasing the vacuum in the sterilization chamber;whereby a vacuum pressure is used which lowers the boiling temperature of water in the sterilization chamber below the temperature in the sterilization chamber. One or more ventilating cycles can be added to the preferred method for removing the remaining ozone and humidity from the sterilization chamber. Single cycle sterilization with ozone is more efficient and provides for a shorter sterilization cycle than with ETO and requires few changes in user habits. Moreover, the ozone-based process in accordance with the invention is compatible for use with current packaging, such as sterile pouches and rigid containers. The sterilization process is simple and substantially avoids human errors caused by false interpretation and handling. The ozone sterilization method of the invention requires substantially no aeration or cooling down of sterilized instruments so that they can be used immediately following the sterilization cycle. This allows hospitals to reduce the cost of maintaining expensive medical device inventories.
