These and other objects of this invention are achieved by providing a novel method and compositions for the clinical treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. This invention involves use of systemically administered compositions which include primary amine derivatives of benzoic acid as carbonyl trapping agents. These primary therapeutic agents act by chemically binding to and sequestering the aldehyde and/or ketone products of lipid peroxidation. Increased levels of lipid peroxidation have been repeatedly demonstrated as a part of the non-enzymatic "inflammatory cascade" process which underlies the secondary etiology of chronic inflammatory diseases. p-Aminobenzoic acid (or PABA) is an example of the primary therapeutic agent of the present invention. PABA has a small molecular weight, is water soluble, has a primary amine group that reacts with carbonyl-containing metabolites under physiological conditions and is tolerated by the body in relatively high dosages and for extended periods. The carbonyl sequestering agents are used in combination with at least one co-agent so as to produce an additional beneficial physiological effect of an anti-inflammatory nature. Such compositions are administered systemically entirely via the oral route. Co-agents of the present invention include anti-oxidants and free radical trapping compounds (e.g., alpha-tocopherol), compounds having indirect anti-oxidant activity (e.g., selenium), vitamins (e.g., pyridoxine HCl), compounds which facilitate kidney drug elimination (e.g., glycine), metabolites at risk of depletion (e.g., pantothenic acid), sulfhydryl containing chemicals (e.g., methionine), compounds which facilitate glutathione activity (e.g., N-acetylcysteine), and non-absorbable polyamine co-agents (e.g., chitosan).

This invention relates to the use of chemical compounds to trap carbon-centered radicals during the golf ball curing process. The intended end result is a golf ball that has lower compression due to a decrease in crosslink density while retaining sufficient crosslink density to impart durability to the golf ball and either maintain or increase the resiliency of the golf ball. The subject invention more specifically discloses a golf ball which is comprised of a solid core and a resin cover wherein the core is produced by curing a composition comprising an elastomeric polymer, a free radical initiator, a radical crosslinking agent, and at least one carbon-centered radical trap, wherein the carbon-centered radical trap is free of sulfur, and wherein the carbon-centered radical trap is not a stable free radical. The present invention further discloses a process for manufacturing a golf ball core which comprises (1) blending a mixture of an elastomeric polymer, a free radical initiator, a radical crosslinking agent, and at least one carbon-centered radical trap to produce a golf ball core composition, wherein the carbon-centered radical trap is free of sulfur, and wherein the carbon-centered radical trap is not a stable free radical, (2) compressing the golf ball core composition into an essentially spherical shape to produce an uncured golf ball core and (3) heating the uncured golf ball cure at an elevated temperature to produce a cured golf ball core.

The road petroleum asphalt anti-ageing agent disclosed by the invention has the characteristics that anti-ageing performance is good, the use level is low and the compatibility between the road petroleum asphalt anti-ageing agent and the asphalt is good, and is capable of restraining and preventing chain reactions caused on the road petroleum asphalt because of heat, oxygen, light and metal ions, and prolonging the service lives of asphalt road surfaces.
