An improved method of making a series of bead or microsphere or particle populations characterized by subtle variation in a proportion or ratio of at least two fluorescent dyes distributed within a single bead of each population is provided. These beads, when excited by a single excitation light source are capable of giving off several fluorescent signals simultaneously. A set containing as many as 64 distinct populations of multicolored, fluorescent beads is provided and when combined with analytical reagents bound to the surface of such beads is extremely useful for multiplexed analysis of a plurality of analytes in a single sample. Thus, methods of staining polymeric particles, the particles themselves, and methods of using such particles are claimed.

According to the electromagnetic semicontinuous casting device disclosed by the invention, through a method of adjusting the frequency of electrical current, duty ratio and average current strength, the electrical current in a unique wave shape is formed in the single excitation coil placed in the cooling cavity of a crystallizer, so that desired forced convection or shaking effect is formed in the crystallizer with low current intensity; the grain of ingot blank is significantly refined; and columnar crystals are significantly reduced or eliminated to lower macroscopic segregation and realize the technical effect of low-stress casting. Under the condition of similar functional effects, the size of the electromagnetic crystallizer system is one third to one half of that of an original electromagnetic crystallizer system.

An excitation method of a vibrating wire sensor mainly comprises the following operating steps: performing single excitation for exciting coils of the vibrating wire sensor by an intermittent excitation mode to obtain a resonant frequency measured value f1 with low precision; calculating statistical characteristics of vibration signals during various periods, and inspecting the statistical characteristics; exciting the exciting coils of the vibrating wire sensor by adopting a signal with the frequency being f1 and stopping excitation after vibrating wire resonance, or performing frequency-sweep excitation at the position of a narrower bandwidth near the frequency f1; and finally processing signals from vibration pickup coils, and measuring the signal frequency to obtain a measured value f2 as an exact value of vibrating wire resonance frequency. The excitation method of the vibrating wire sensor has the advantages of fast starting of vibration, large amplitude, shortened detection time, improved working efficiency, improved excitation reliability and improved measuring precision. The excitation method of the vibrating wire sensor is applicable to observation on stress strain, deformation, seepage, liquid level, temperature and the like of the projects such as reservoir dams, bridges, foundation pits and the like.

Single detector based dual excitation wavelength spectra display

A single detector based spectroscopy system using FAST (fiber array spectral translator) fibers and two excitation sources in conjunction with a holographic spectrum analyzer (HSA) to obtain simultaneous and selective display of spectroscopic regions of interest. A sample can be illuminated with different laser excitation wavelengths and resulting multiple spectra can be comparatively observed on a single display screen for more fruitful analysis of sample spectral responses (and, hence, sample chemical or physical properties) under different excitations. The HSA may be configured to focus on user-selected spectral regions of interest from different such spectra and a single CCD detector may be configured to collect spectral data from all selected spectral regions of interest in corresponding portions of the CCD pixel array, thereby allowing subsequent simultaneous display of such selected spectral regions of interest. The HSA may also allow simultaneous collection and display of portions of a single spectrum from a single excitation wavelength. A user can perform better comparative analysis when spectral regions of interest are juxtaposed with each other on a single electronic display.
