In general, the composition comprises (a) at least one water-soluble polymer; (b) at least one organic gelling agent capable of cross-linking the water-soluble polymer; and (c) at least one water-soluble formate. More preferably, the water-soluble polymer is a copolymer of (i) at least one non-acidic ethylenically unsaturated polar monomer, and (ii) at least one copolymerisable ethylenically unsaturated ester. The gelling agent is preferably selected from the group consisting of a polyalkyleneimine, polyfunctional aliphatic amine, an aralkylamine, and a heteroaralkylamine. The preferred water-soluble formate is selected from the group consisting of ammonium formate, lithium formate, sodium formate, potassium formate, rubidium formate, cesium formate, and francium formate. Water is used to make an aqueous composition prior to use in a subterranean formation. The methods of this invention for reducing the permeability of a subterranean zone are comprised of the steps of introducing an aqueous composition according to the invention into a subterranean zone, and then allowing the aqueous composition to form a cross-linked gel in the zone. Preferably, the method includes the step of subsequently producing hydrocarbons from the subterranean formation.

A method for separating molybdenum and bismuth sulfide collective concentrate minerals relates to a mineral separation process, in particular to a method for separating the molybdenum and bismuth sulfide collective concentrate minerals to obtain molybdenum concentrate and bismuth concentrate. The invention is characterized in that the floatation separation process adopts bi-hydroxyethyl group amino sodium formate or bi-hydroxyethyl group amino potassium formate as the inhibitor of the bismuth sulfide mineral. The method of the invention efficiently overcomes the defects of large use amount ofcommon sodium sulfide, bad operation environment and heavy pollution, and has the characteristics of convenient adding, safe usage and the like. The invention provides an effective method featuring small medicament use amount, convenient usage and little environment pollution for the separation of molybdenum and bismuth sulfide minerals.

A method of removing an iron sulfide scale from a surface in fluid communication with a wellbore and / or subterranean formation comprising contacting the iron sulfide scale on the surface with a composition to dissolve the iron sulfide scale in the composition. The composition comprises (a) at least one chelating agent selected from the group consisting of DTPA, EDTA, HEDTA, GLDA, CDTA, and MGDA, and salts thereof, and (b) at least one converting agent selected from the group consisting of potassium carbonate (K2CO3), potassium formate (HCOOK), potassium hydroxide (KOH), potassium chloride (KCl), cesium formate (HCOOCs), and cesium chloride (CsCl). In the composition, the weight ratio of (a):(b) lies in the range 7-60:2-20.
