Method and means for capture and long-term sequestration of carbon dioxide

InactiveUS20090081096A1High heat of reactionHigh regeneration energyCombination devicesGas treatmentSolubilityAmbient pressure
The invention teaches a practical method of recovering CO2 from a mixture of gases, and sequestering the captured CO2 from the atmosphere for geologic time as calcium carbonate and provides a CO2 scrubber for carbon capture and sequestration. CO2 from the production of calcium oxide is geologically sequestered. A calcium hydroxide solution is produced from the environmentally responsibly-produced calcium oxide. The CO2 scrubber incorporates an aqueous froth to maximize liquid-to-gas surface area and time-of-contact between gaseous CO2 and the calcium hydroxide solution. The CO2 scrubber decreases the temperature of the liquid and the mixed gases, increases ambient pressure on the bubbles and vapor pressure inside the bubbles, diffuses the gas through intercellular walls from relative smaller bubbles with relative high vapor pressure into relative larger bubbles with relative low vapor pressure, and decreases the mean-free-paths of the CO2 molecules inside the bubbles, in order to increase solubility of CO2 and the rate of dissolution of gaseous CO2 from a mixture of gases into the calcium hydroxide solution. The CO2 scrubber recovers gaseous CO2 directly from the atmosphere, from post-combustion flue gas, or from industrial processes that release CO2 as a result of process. CO2 reacts with calcium ions and hydroxide ions in solution forming insoluble calcium carbonate precipitates. The calcium carbonate precipitates are separated from solution, and sold to recover at least a portion of the cost of CCS.

Multiple barrier biological treatment systems

The inventions separate the activated sludge, biochemical reaction stages of the batch treatment process of a sequencing batch reactor from the clarification and sedimentation stages by separating the locations where each process takes place. The separation may be accomplished in a variety of ways including constructing separate basins for each process, installing baffles or other partitions in a single vessel to isolate the areas where each process takes place, or other methods of process separation as are known in the art. In each process, treatment occurs through the performance of a series of operations. The operations are repeated for each batch of wastewater processed by the SBR. In a conventional SBR process, the cycle of operations for clarification and sedimentation are dependent on a preceding biochemical reaction step. However, in the present invention the clarification and sedimentation operations are independent of the biochemical reaction operations. It remains possible to coordinate operations so that the process cycles are coincident, however the benefits of the invention are more readily realized by the practice of independent operation.

Environmental protection urea-formaldehyde resin and preparation method thereof

A novel environmental protective urea-formaldehyde resin and a preparation method belong to the field of wood processing adhesives. The urea-formaldehyde resin is formed by the reaction of urea, formaldehyde, aldehyde, one or more stabilizers and modifier according to the route of weak base-weak acid-weak base. The method firstly controls the F / U feed ratio, the pH value and the temperature during the reaction process to reduce the content of free formaldehyde in the resin; then the aldehyde is introduced to allow the resin to generate the stable alkyl ether (-(CH2)n-O-(CH2)n-) structure, thus reducing the content of methylene-ether bond (-CH2-O-CH2-) in the resin structure, simultaneously reducing the using amount of the formaldehyde and further greatly reducing the release amount of the formaldehyde during the using process of a plate from the two aspects; in addition, the introduction of a long chain and polyaldehyde can ensure the resin to have great bonding strength and water resistance. The urea-formaldehyde resin which is prepared by the invention has the advantages of low content of free formaldehyde, simple process, low cost, etc., the release amount of the formaldehyde of the plate which is prepared by using the adhesive achieves the E0 level standard, and the high bonding strength can be maintained after being boiled in hot water.
