Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), also known as the purple mangosteen, is a tropical evergreen tree with edible fruit native to Island Southeast Asia. Its exact origins are unknown due to its widespread cultivation since ancient times, but it is believed to have been somewhere between the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas. It grows mainly in Southeast Asia, southwest India and other tropical areas such as Colombia, Puerto Rico and Florida, where the tree has been introduced. The tree grows from 6 to 25 m (19.7 to 82.0 ft) tall. The fruit of the mangosteen is sweet and tangy, juicy, somewhat fibrous, with fluid-filled vesicles (like the flesh of citrus fruits), with an inedible, deep reddish-purple colored rind (exocarp) when ripe. In each fruit, the fragrant edible flesh that surrounds each seed is botanically endocarp, i.e., the inner layer of the ovary. Seeds are almond-shaped and -sized.

The invention discloses a method for extracting alpha-mangostin from garcinia mangostana peel. The method includes the following steps that 1) the garcinia mangostana peel is crushed, reflux extraction is conducted once or twice with water of 8-10 times of weight, then reflux extraction is conducted for one to three times with a 90%-95% ethanol solution of 8-10 times of weight, an extracting solution of the ethanol solution is combined, the extracting solution is concentrated to be twice or three times of the weight of the garcinia mangostana peel, centrifuging is carried out, and after centrifugal residues are dried, a crude extract is obtained; 2) subcritical extraction is conducted by using the fluid which is formed by dimethyl ether and butane according to the weight ratio of 60-70 : 30-40 as an extraction agent, the extraction temperature is 68-72 DEG C, the extraction pressure is 2.8-3.2MPa, and the extraction time is 20-40min. According to the method for extracting the alpha-mangostin from the garcinia mangostana peel, water extraction and alcohol extraction are used for obtaining the crude extract first in the extracting process, the content of the alpha-mangostin of the crude extract is 70%-80%, then subcritical extraction is conducted, and the content of the alpha-mangostin is further made to reach 98%. The method is short in time, small in dosage of reagents, simple in step and high in yield and content, a subcritical extraction agent is volatilized directly to obtain a product, and thus the method is more suitable for industrial production.

The invention relates to a preparation method for a garcinia mangostana-based carbon nanodot and application of the carbon nanodot as a fluorescent probe to detecting ferric ions, and aims to solve the technical problem that an existing preparation method of the carbon nanodot is time-consuming. The preparation method of the carbon nanodot comprises the following steps: putting pulp of garcinia mangostana into a crucible for roasting and drying to obtain a solid; then, heating the solid in an electrothermal furnace, and cooling and crushing after the solid turns yellow brown from white in color to obtain yellow brown powder; dissolving the yellow brown powder with ultrapure water, magnetically stirring, performing ultrasonic treatment and centrifugally extracting supernate; filtering and dialyzing the supernate, and drying and crushing obtained carbon nanodot solution in vacuum to obtain carbon nanodot powder (MCDs). The carbon nanodot powder can serve as the fluorescent probe to interact with the ferric ions, so that fluorescence of the MCDs is quenched and a MCDs-Fe<3+> compound is formed, and therefore, detection on the ferric ions is realized. The fluorescent probe can be used in the field of fluorescent sensors.
