595 results about "Creatine" patented technology

Creatine (/ˈkriːətiːn/ or /ˈkriːətɪn/) is an organic compound with the nominal formula (H₂N)(HN)CN(CH₃)CH₂CO₂H. This species exists in various modifications (tautomers) in solution. Creatine is found in vertebrates where it facilitates recycling of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of the cell, primarily in muscle and brain tissue. Recycling is achieved by converting adenosine diphosphate (ADP) back to ATP via donation of phosphate groups. Creatine also acts as a buffer.

Microneedle device for extraction and sensing of bodily fluids

Microneedle devices are provided for controlled sampling of biological fluids in a minimally-invasive, painless, and convenient manner. The microneedle devices permit in vivo sensing or withdrawal of biological fluids from the body, particularly from or through the skin or other tissue barriers, with minimal or no damage, pain, or irritation to the tissue. The microneedle device includes one or more microneedles, preferably in a three-dimensional array, a substrate to which the microneedles are connected, and at least one collection chamber and / or sensor in communication with the microneedles. Preferred embodiments further include a means for inducing biological fluid to be drawn through the microneedles and into the collection chamber for analysis. In a preferred embodiment, this induction is accomplished by use of a pressure gradient, which can be created for example by selectively increasing the interior volume of the collection chamber, which includes an elastic or movable portion engaged to a rigid base. Preferred biological fluids for withdrawal and / or sensing include blood, lymph, interstitial fluid, and intracellular fluid. Examples of analytes in the biological fluid to be measured include glucose, cholesterol, bilirubin, creatine, metabolic enzymes, hemoglobin, heparin, clotting factors, uric acid, carcinoembryonic antigen or other tumor antigens, reproductive hormones, oxygen, pH, alcohol, tobacco metabolites, and illegal drugs.

Amperometric biosensors based on redox enzymes

The invention includes various prototypical amperometric biosensors for the quantification of biological substrates such as fructose, creatinine, creatine, and sarcosine, and the methods for producing these biosensors. Also included in the invention is a minaturized version of the biosensing devices. The components of these prototypical biosensors are immobilized on a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) comprising chemisorbed alkanethiols. The deposition of an amphiphilic lipid layer to these systems increases the stability and activity of the resultant biosensor and enhances the rejection of many interferents. An additional feature of the invention is the co-deposition of the components of the sensor via a novel detergent dialysis protocol. The invention features two particular biosensor systems. One embodiment involves fructose dehydrogenase as the redox / sensor enzyme and fructose as the substrate / analyte. Another embodiment involves the measurement of the substrates / analytes, creatinine, creatine and sarcosine, using sacrosine dehydrogenase as the redox / sensor enzyme, with the involvement of creatinine amidohydrolase and / or creatine amidinohydrolase in the reaction pathway.

Stable three enzyme creatinine biosensor

The invention provides methods for preparing a stable, multiple-use three enzyme biosensor for the amperometric determination of creatinine in biological liquids that has a useful lifetime that extends significantly beyond that of presently available amperometric biosensors. The biosensor prepared by the methods of the invention encompasses a plurality of immobilized enzymes that are applied to the biosensor as an enzyme-polymer composition. The enzymes, which can include creatinine amidohydrolase, creatine amidinohydrolase and sarcosine oxidase, are immobilized into the enzyme-polymer composition simultaneously as well as applied to the biosensor simultaneously. Prior to being immobilized, the enzymes can be chemically modified by attaching one or more polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains per enzyme monomer. The polymer component can be provided by a polyurethane membrane. The invention also provides a method of preparing a biosensor that limits the diffusion of silver ions emanating the reference electrode, thereby preventing, contact between the silver ions and the enzymes. Related methods of preparing an enzyme-polymer composition for incorporation into a multiple use three enzyme biosensor for the amperometric determination of creatinine in biological liquids also are provided. The invention also provides multiple-use biosensors and enzyme-polymer compositions prepared by the methods disclosed.
