The invention belongs to the field of glass fiber impregnating compounds, and concretely relates to a preparation method of an amic acid emulsion, and a method for modifying the surface of a glass fiber with the amic acid emulsion. The milky amic acid emulsion with a solid content of 0.1-5% is prepared by controlling a molar ratio of aromatic dianhydride to 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether at 1.05:1 to 2:1 and a ratio of water to N,N'-dimethylformamide at 2:1 to 10:1 and adding 0.01-5% of an acidic or neutral water-soluble polymer, and the effect of modification of the surface of the glass fiber with the amic acid emulsion is determined by detecting the interfacial shear strength using a micro-debonding process. Active groups such as -COOH and -NH in the emulsion react with silicon hydroxyl groups on the surface of the glass fiber to form a strong hydrogen bond or chemical bond, and heating is performed for imidization to achieve a good interface temperature resistance and form a good compatibility with the resin in order to improve the interface properties of the fiber, so the amic acid emulsion has broad application prospects.
