The invention, which relates to the technical field of COD content detection, discloses a method for detecting the COD content in water by an instrument. The method comprises the following steps that:step one, test building is performed; to be specific, an instrument detects the COD content in water by using a measuring method that uses potassium dichromate as an oxidant, silver sulfate as a catalyst, a mercury sulfate as a masking agent for chloride ions and measurement of a COD digestion system as the base under the acidic condition of sulfuric acid; step two, a rapid digestion spectropho-tometry method is performed; to be specific, a sealing tube is used as a digestion tube, a small number of water samples and reagents are placed in the sealing tube, the sealing tube is placed in a small constant-temperature heating container and then constant-temperature heating and digestion are performed, and a COD value is determined by the spectrophotometry method. According to the invention,the method has advantages of small occupied space, low energy consumption, and small reagent amount and the like; defects of large equipment occupied space, high energy consumption, and large reagentdosage of the existing COD content detection method are overcome; and problems are solved by the method for detecting the COD content in water by an instrument.
