The invention belongs to the field of
plant biology, and relates to a method for determining the sex of an
oil palm immature
inflorescence by a cytohistology technique. The method comprises the steps: selecting an
inflorescence in III period of a male and female non-dominant period, carrying out fixation,
dehydration and transparence,
wax dipping and embedding,
slicing and baking, and dewaxing and
staining to prepare a section, observing and photographing the section with a
microscope, calculating the number of flower
bract primordia, the number of flower bracts, the number of new flower
bract primordia and the number of floral
primordium meristems, and then determining the sex of the
inflorescence according to a determining ruler of the sex of the
oil palm immature inflorescence. According to the difference of
oil palm male and female inflorescences in morphology and cytohistology levels, the sex of the inflorescence is determined in the male and female non-dominant period in advance by using the cytohistology technique, the research time is effectively shortened, the
research process is accelerated, the basis is provided for further researching the relationship of an oil palm inflorescence sex differentiation mechanism with external factors, and important significance on flowering phase and
sex ratio regulation, yield increasing and the like in oil palm production is achieved.
